Lagos, Nigeria, Friday, June 29, 2012 - Lafferty Group, the London based research and advisory house has enlisted First City Monument Bank Plc’s (FCMB) Executive Director, Retail Banking Division, Nabeel Malik, among the World’s Top 120 Retail Banking Leaders. Nabeel Malik’s nomination was contained in the recently published Lafferty Group Management Report – Retail Banking Leaders.

Lafferty’s Retail Banking Leaders identifies the leading executives making critical decisions about retail banking in the world’s largest banks.

A statement of the nomination signed by Michael Lafferty, Chairman, Lafferty Group said “Your nomination recognizes your extensive leadership, experience and stature within the retail banking profession”. The statement further stated, “While some are trend-setting innovators, some are cautious and conservative practitioners”.

Nabeel was also recently honoured with the Honorary Certified International Retail Banker Award of the International Academy of Retail Banking (IARB). He was among retail bankers from five African banks that received the award at the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria. IARB offers programmes and certifications for “high achievers” in retail banking at three levels – foundation, intermediate and expert.

A graduate of Princeton University (1984), New Jersey, majoring in Economics (BA), and a master’s degree holder from Yale School of Management (1991), Connecticut, Nabeel joined FCMB in March 2009 as an executive director in charge of retail banking from Mashreq Bank, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he was a Senior Vice-President responsible for international business development and strategy for markets, overall governance of existing businesses and international retail expansion.

Previously with Citibank (2002–2005), his work experience spans several countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
